Food and wine

At Yarrh this spring we’ve been experimenting with different foods, flavours and textures to either complement or contrast with our wine.

Yarrh 2008 Sauvignon Blanc

Characters

mineral, flint, citrus, tropical with a hint of grassiness

Dishes

Our marinated goat's cheese w mixed raw salad and croutons is creaminess of the cheese and the zestiness of the marinate matches the citrus and acid balance of the wine.

Cucumber and mint carpaccio . The crisp clean taste of the cucumber and refreshing mint make an excellent hors d'oeuvre.

Yarrh 2008 Riesling

Character

Floral, grapefruit and lime

Dishes

Smoked trout sandwiches . Our Riesling has wonderful acidity and contrasts sensationally with the slightly unctuous sweet nature of good quality smoked trout. The cream cheese, dill and lemon completes the palate and complements the acid of the Reisling.

We also recommend oysters, freshly shucked (by the vendor) with a dash of lemon to bring out the citrus flavours of the Riesling. This classic combination is one of the great wine and food matches. Our local oysters are from the clean waters of the NSW South Coast.

Yarrh 2006 Shiraz

Character

White pepper, liquorice, cherry and plum

Dishes

Duck salad with roasted cashew nuts, mint, coriander, lime and chilli. The exquisite combination of flavours and textures in this dish perfectly matches the complexity of the Shiraz.

Spiced lamb w sweet potato salad and mustard seed dressing . The spiceiness and distinctive taste of the lamb complements the spice and persistent finish of the Shiraz.

Yarrh 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon

Character

Blackcurrant, tobacco and chocolate

Dishes

BBQ beef. It's that time of year for BBQ's and this powerful wine will match the flavours of a chargrilled steak.

White Cheshire and black olives. The firm, strident flavours of the cheese and olives are a sensational match for this big Cabernet.

Yarrh 2007 Pinot Noir

Character

Cherry, earthy forest floor

Dishes

Slow roasted pulled pork with coleslaw. The sweetness and lightness of the pork is complemented by the delicate, but distinctive flavours of the wine. If you like your pork in small doses, try it with Sanish chorizo tortilla
